Glaze much?

My work is finally out of the bisque fire!  I spent the whole class period glazing, and I expect to get the bulk (if not all) of my work back next week.  Yippeee!!

Ding ding!  Here's a bell I made.  I'll take another picture sometime of the underside to show off how it's made.
Here are all the pieces I glazed tonight.  PHEW!  I did a lot of drizzly designs..normally I would just experiment on one and wait to see the results... but not an option this time.  I think a few will turn out very nicely, but a couple others I'm uncertain about.

Here's a close up of a marbled bowl I made.  Dark brown and white clay.  I glazed it "Grace's turquoise", which is beautiful and shows the clay body, so that the marbling will still be visible.

Goals

Hi all,
It is my goal to list at least 20 items on Etsy by Thanksgiving Day, so I have been very busy lately!  I am hoping this kick will help me jumpstart on the interwebs with the holidays approaching.  I think it's the perfect launching point for me, and I can already see improvements in details and the ways I work.  For instance, I automatically began signing my name neater and the same for each piece...which makes me happy because my subconscious is prouder of my efforts now, or something like that.

Anyway, I just spent some time writing my profile statement for Etsy and I thought I would share.  Feedback is welcomed!

P.S. I will be getting over a dozen pieces back from the kiln tomorrow night - exciting!

My artistic statement (copyright Patricia Tertell, 2010 All Rights Reserved)

I am passionate about pottery and create wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces.  Art is integral to my life and clay is my favorite medium because something so shifting can be transformed into so many beautiful things.

I have a streamlined aesthetic and add elements with purpose.  I play close attention to good design striving for pieces that are functional, light-weight and comfortable to hold.  Nature and the ratios found in nature inspire me, and I am mesmerized by textures, glazes and oxides.

Each of my unique pieces is thrown on the wheel or assembled by hand and is hand-decorated.  With the exception of the potter’s wheel, I do not use any automated tools or molds.  Speed and uniformity are not primary objectives, I create pottery out of love entirely.  My goal is to create objects with a human element and personal touch that enrich daily life.

My First Post!

Readers,
Thank you for checking out my blog!  I am excited to share my ideas and pieces with others and feel fortunate I'm able to in such a convenient way.

So without further adieu, here are some preliminary pieces I've been working on:

These leafy pieces are ready to glaze, and I first applied a red iron oxide to them:

Here's a large bowl I got back tonight.  I left part of the corner unglazed just to give it some balance...me trying to be an idiot savant.

Updates on the final leaves soon!  I also cut out individual leaves and am making ornaments out of them.  Good timing, huh!
